Food Pathogens
Detecting food pathogens such as Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes in raw and processed foods, with the help of fast and sensitive technologies throughout the entire production chain, is essential in order to protect consumer health.
Real-time PCR Solutions for Food Pathogen Detection
- As a reliable and sensitive method, real-time PCR is an important technique in modern food analysis and delivers substantially faster results than classical detection methods. Our BACGene real-time PCR kit portfolio has been developed specifically for the fast detection of Salmonella, Listeria, E.coli and Legionella.
- Additionally, our PREraser BACGene solution, which can be easily integrated as an optional step, targets free DNA from samples and thereby reduces the number of unconfirmed positive PCR results, without having a negative effect on living pathogens.

ELISA Solutions for the Detection of Salmonella and Listeria
ELISA assays continue to play an important role in food pathogen detection due to their fast turnaround time, ease of use, and the relatively small amount of space they take up in a laboratory. Additionally, the BACSpec ELISA kits enable an automated workflow using the GSD BOLTTM and Thunderbolt®, resulting in a significant reduction in the hands-on time required to run the analysis in the laboratory.
The majority of our BACGene real-time PCR and BACSpec ELISA kits are certified by internationally recognised organisations such as AFNOR and AOAC.
Microgen Bioproducts for Sampling and Confirmation
Path-Chek Hygiene Tests
Rapid tests for the detection of a range of bacteria (Salmonella, Listeria and Coliforms) on work surfaces and in the processing environment.
- High levels of sensitivity and specificity (<1cfu per cm2)
- Compliant with the requirements of ISO 18593:2004 (E)
- Pre-moistened swabs increase recovery from wet and dry surfaces. These also neutralise residual detergents and sanitising agents, preserving target microorganisms.
Biochemical Identification
The Microgen Listeria-ID is used for the identification of Listeria in foods and environmental samples.
Microgen GN-ID A is a convenient 12 substrate ID system for the most commonly isolated Enterobacteriaceae from food samples. Obtain a reliable identification, based on its standardized biochemical substrates, easiness of use and interpretation system in 24 hours. Addition of the Microgen GN-ID B kit extends the format to a 24 substrate ID system for Enterobacteriaceae and Oxidase positive, Nonfastidious, Gram-Negative bacilli.
Latex Agglutination
The Microgen rapid latex agglutination tests are the fastest, easiest and most cost-efficient methods for confirmatory identification of Salmonella, Legionella or Staphylococcus aureus colonies. The tests provide results in 2 minutes, integrate seamlessly into laboratory workflow and provide a highly specific and sensitive alternative to traditional culture methods.
We also provide a full range of magnetic separation beads and latex agglutination tests to purify and detect E. coli O157, other STECs (Shiga Toxin-Producing E. coli) and Shiga Toxins. For more information, visit the US webpage: E. coli Latex Agglutination Kits and Magnetic Separation Beads
Culture Media
BACGro™ ULTRA Listeria Broth (BULB), 2 x 5L bags, ready-to-use (RTU) format, is a selective enrichment medium for Listeria spp. from food and environmental samples. For other Culture Media products, visit this page.
