Comprehensive Workflow for Monitoring SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater and on Environmental Surfaces

Monitoring SARS-CoV-2 virus in critical areas is crucial to containing the viral spread.

VIRSeek Wastewater Solution

Wastewater-based epidemiology has become an important approach to comprehensively monitor dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 infections in highly populated areas. In contrast to other preventive measures, this approach is more cost-effective and non-invasive.

NEW: In alignment with a recommendation published by the European Commission on how to measure SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater, the VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 Solution for wastewater offers a holistic approach from sample concentration, RNA isolation to subsequent identification.

Taking this recommendation as a basis for development, the VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 Mplex I and Mplex II Wastewater real-time RT-PCR kits deliver a solution for SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewater. These multiplex kits contain primer/probe sets to specifically identify SARS-CoV-2, as well as critical process parameters such as the nucleic acid extraction efficiency, a specific water quality indicator or the impact of matrix inhibition via an internal positive control. These new members of the VIRSeek real-time RT-PCR kit-family for SARS-CoV-2 detection fit in well with the overall VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 solution also enabling to specifically detect different mutant variants such as the Omicron variant. A viral concentration workflow with a subsequent lysis and isolation of the viral SARS-CoV-2 RNA using the VIRSeek RNAExtractor AE1 kit for automated platforms is also part of the overall solution.

VIRType Mutation Identification

NEW! Watch out for the whole list of the VIRType SARS-CoV-2 kits which provide all reagents for the rapid detection and distinction of the critical SARS-CoV-2 variants via real-time RT-PCR.

VIRSeek Surface Solution

Although inanimate surfaces may play a minor role in the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus, studies have shown, that SARS-CoV-2 virus particles show a prolonged tenacity on surfaces (up to 3 days) that may underline the importance to monitor potential contaminated surfaces.
