INgezim® Besnoitia 480 tests

Indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of specific antibodies to Besnoitia besnoiti in bovine serum.

Details

Bovine besnoitiosis is an emerging parasitic disease caused by Besnoitia besnoiti, an apicomplexan protozoan that affects cattle and leads to significant production losses. The disease is characterized by fever, anorexia, edema, skin thickening, and the development of tissue cysts, with chronic cases showing reduced fertility and decreased productivity. Due to its clinical overlap with other protozoal infections, reliable serological diagnostic tools are essential for early detection, confirmation, and epidemiological surveillance.

INgezim® Besnoitia is an indirect immunoenzymatic ELISA designed for the qualitative detection of antibodies against B. besnoiti in bovine serum. The assay uses a protein extract from the tachyzoite stage of B. besnoiti as the coating antigen and incorporates a monoclonal antibody specific for bovine IgG2 as the conjugate, ensuring high specificity.

The test has demonstrated high analytical specificity, with no cross reaction observed in animals infected with other cyst forming protozoa. The assay achieved a diagnostic sensitivity of 94.7%, a diagnostic specificity of 100%, and a Cohen’s kappa value of 0.94, demonstrating excellent agreement with reference methods.

INgezim® Besnoitia is supplied in a 480 test format, supporting extensive screening and surveillance programs in endemic regions or herds under investigation.

Only for veterinary in vitro diagnostic use.
