INgezim® ASF 480 tests

Indirect enzyme linked immunosorbent assay for the detection of specific antibodies to African swine fever virus (ASFV) in serum, whole blood (fresh or dried on filter paper), and spleen exudate samples from domestic pigs and wild boar.

Details

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious hemorrhagic disease of domestic and wild suids caused by African swine fever virus, a large DNA virus of the Asfarviridae family. The disease produces severe economic losses due to its high mortality rates, rapid transmission, and the absence of a licensed vaccine. Clinical signs may include fever, anorexia, cyanosis, hemorrhages, and sudden death, although subclinical infections can occur with less virulent strains. Given its similarity to other swine diseases and the regulatory implications of an ASF diagnosis, reliable serological tools are essential for surveillance, early detection, and epidemiological studies.

The INgezim® ASF ELISA is an indirect assay designed for the qualitative detection of antibodies against the recombinant ASFV proteins cp312 and p30. The test uses a monoclonal antibody specific for porcine IgG, ensuring robust and specific detection in domestic pigs and wild boar. It is validated for serum, whole blood (fresh or dried on filter paper), and spleen exudates, offering flexibility for both laboratory and field sampling.

High analytical specificity has been demonstrated, with no cross reaction detected against antibodies to other infectious agents. Diagnostic specificity was evaluated using samples from ASFV free areas, yielding 100% specificity. Diagnostic sensitivity was assessed using experimentally infected animals with multiple ASFV genotypes (I, II, X), as well as field samples, resulting in an overall sensitivity of 94.3%. Additional comparison with immunoblotting (IB) showed excellent agreement: 100% sensitivity and specificity in domestic swine samples, and 100% sensitivity and 92% specificity in wild boar.

INgezim® ASF is supplied in a 192 test format and is suitable for large scale monitoring programs in endemic, at risk, or surveillance settings.
