We are pleased to announce the launch of the SENSIPure Immunoaffinity Column Aflatoxins Total for sensitive and reliable sample purification for total aflatoxin quantification. A crucial step in sample preparation is purifying the extract with the immunoaffinity column. After the extract has been applied to the column and washing and elution have taken place, the product is an enhanced and purified extract, which improves measurement quality.
The SENSIPure columns provide a highly specific purification with monoclonal antibodies and can be applied for a wide range of matrices. The columns are robust with a good flow behaviour and have a shelf lifetime of 2 years.
In addition to quantifying the capacity and the cross-reactivity, the extended quality control includes inspecting blank contamination and verifying recovery in matrix.
Aflatoxin outbreaks
Aflatoxin is a serious health concern and outbreaks globally occur multiple times a year. Just recently, children’s rice cakes were recalled in Hungary and other European countries because they were suspected of containing hepatotoxic and carcinogen Aflatoxins.[1,2] Aflatoxins are mycotoxins produced by the fungi Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus pre and/or post harvesting.[2]
This is not an isolated case. Since the beginning of this year there were 212 notifications in the RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) related to aflatoxins in foodstuffs.[3]
Screening for aflatoxins: the importance of IAC
